'A Little Ray of Light'

Sunday 7 May 2017

Would you Adam and Eve it?! Sunderland have mustered a Premier League victory, their first in ten games. If I'm honest, I'm not entirely sure what to make if it. I thought Hull were poor, and suffered from a little bit of stage fright. The pressure was on them after all. They still created plenty of openings, and Jordan Pickford had to be at his best once again. Just exactly what our points total would be without him this season doesn't bear thinking about. Jermain Defoe has once again carried the goal scoring expectations, but it wouldn't surprise me if Pickford scooped both our young player and player of the year awards at the end of the season. We all know how good the lad is, and how good he can go on to be.

We can't really learn to much from our victory over Hull, mainly because the vast majority of our players are already looking to jump ship and won't be here come August. Even Papy Djilobodji is looking to stay in The Premier League. (Good luck with that one Papy). Moyes has said he believes we have a good core of players ready for The Championship next season. I would think he'd be referring to the likes of Jones, Oviedo, Rodwell, Gibson, McNair and Watmore. Maybe even Didier N'dong. Possibilities remain for Honeyman, O'Shea, Larsson and Anichebe. If anything, it was a professional display for Sunderland on The Humber, finally giving our long-suffering supporters something to cheer. The consequences for Hull are potentially disastrous. Here's hoping we can repeat the feat next week at home to Swansea.

With three matches remaining, professionalism and pride will be the main the ingredients for Sunderland's performances. Being realistic, it could be the last time we see a top flight game at the Stadium of Light for some time. I've stated plenty of times just how vital this summer is for the club, and now that we know Moyes will be here to oversee it, he, Martin Bain and Ellis Short must get it right. We'll be after a certain type of player. Young and hungry, players who can get us somewhere near the play off spots come May. If we can achieve that, I think everyone will be more than happy. Let's see what the remaining three games give us, go away and regroup in the summer, and have a right good go at one of the toughest leagues in the business. It will be far from easy.
